Thankful Author 2018- Sophia Karlson

The past eighteen month have been hectic! We had to uproot our children from the life we’ve built for ourselves in Madagascar – the only home they’ve ever known. We moved homes three times in fourteen months, and if there is one thing that’s disruptive and time consuming, it’s packing boxes with stuff you realize along the way you don’t really need.

We had to leave Madagascar for my son’s education – he is dyslexic and has ADHD, a bad combination for anybody needing to go through the school system. Unfortunately, there is no help for children with learning disabilities in third world countries, and the American International School struggled to help him. Being back in South Africa, our first focus was our son and getting him in the right school. He has been receiving intense occupational therapy and remedial reading lessons, and attends a remedial school where there are only six children in his class. He now has ‘fern leaf green’ tinted spectacles, which also helps him to read. In the past ten months, he has gone from reading on a Kindergarten level, to Grade 2 level – given that he is nine this has been, for us, a huge achievement. We hope that next year he will be able to catch up to Grade level.

In between, I’ve published two books (which I wrote the previous year). One with The Wild Rose Press, and another which I self published. Both experiences have been a huge learning curve and fun. I’ve realized that I still have huge amounts of work to do on my writing, and learning how to effectively market and sell my books. Bring on 2019 – it is going to be full of adventures!

Blurb

James Sinclair, a successful trader, keeps his busy life uncomplicated. Work is about all he has time for. Imagine his surprise when he returns to his Paris apartment to find his little sister’s best friend, Mila Johnson, in his bed.

One night of fooling around opens a Pandora’s box which Mila just wants to pry open wider, whereas James just wants to keep the lid on tight. Mila is sweet and innocent and no way is he going to expose her to the real James Sinclair.

As his relationship status changes to complicated, James struggles to keep control over his past and his heart. Mila’s teenage fantasy is still larger than life, but James swings between hot and cold. Now that she has him between the sheets, Mila will do anything to keep him there.

    1. Madagascar was pretty special, CB! Not much like the movie, I'm afraid, but beautiful all the same.
