Thankful Author- Melanie Snitker

Thankful Author 2017
Melanie D. Snitker

There’s no doubt about it: I have a lot to be thankful for. I’m married to my best friend, we have two amazing kids, I’m a stay-at-home mom like I’ve always wanted to be, and I do what I love as an author.

I try to be thankful every month of the year. Over time, however, November has morphed into a month full of extra reminders of the ways I’ve been blessed.

My son’s birthday is in a couple of days, and I can’t believe it’ll have been twelve years since I first held him in my arms. I have endometriosis, and we struggled with infertility for almost three years before we discovered he was on the way. This isn’t just the month of his birth, but a reminder to me that dreams do come true, and that God is faithful.

November is also both the month in which my dad was born, and the month in which he died in 2011. I know we’ve all heard the saying about how it’s not the date that we’re born or the date that we die that’s important, but the dash in the middle that matters, and that is so true. November reminds me about those special moments with my dad. I’m not just talking about the birthday celebrations with orange sherbet or those last minutes of life while I held his hand. I’m referring to the memories of him painting Sesame Street characters along our backyard fence and those wonderful family camping trips we went on when I was a kid. I remember making silver bells out of foil to hang for Christmas and watching him string lights around the tree. I’ll never forget the smell of the coffee he drank every morning or the ham he baked every Christmas.

Each November, as we celebrate the gifts of life in family birthdays, remember those who are no longer with us, and gather around the table during Thanksgiving, I’m reminded of just how blessed I truly am.

I want to extend a special thank you to my readers. My most recent release, Finding Forever in Romance, is the ninth title (eight novels and one novella) in my three years as a published author. I couldn’t do this without your support! May your November be filled with happy moments, lots of laughter, and an abundance of memories to treasure.

Blurb:

From the time he was a child, Brent Todd has helped lost pets find healing and homes. Now, he runs Romance's Finding Forever Animal Rescue. Amid the dogs, cats, donkeys, goats, and exotic animals in his care, he convinces himself he has everything he needs. Then a beautiful woman and her son volunteer to help at the shelter. Brent soon realizes he needs more than the rescue animals to fill the empty spaces in his heart and home.

Dedicated to raising her son, Nicole Crawford views romance as a lovely idea. But between being a single mom and the pain of her past, she refuses to dwell on something so out of reach. To teach her son about helping others, they volunteer at Finding Forever on a temporary basis. But the more time she spends with Brent, the more she realizes it'll be impossible to walk away from him and the shelter with her heart intact.

Together, maybe Brent and Nicole will discover a forever family of their own.

  6. Melanie, Beautiful post! Funny how it's the little, off-beat memories that sit closest to the heart, isn't it? I think there's a lesson in that for all of us.

    1. It is funny what plants itself in our hearts. And it really is the little things, or the things money can't buy!
