Thankful Author 2017- Caryn McGill

Thank you, Angela, for inviting me to participate in the Thankful Authors event again this year. It’s heartwarming to read each post, reminding us that we have so much to be grateful for in our lives.

Coming of age in the 60s and 70s I thought we’d fought all our battles for equality: The Civil Rights Movement and The Feminist Movement to name two. Lately, however, I’ve thought long and hard about the freedoms we enjoy in this great country and how I sometimes take them for granted. Although I’m thankful for my health, my family and friends, and this amazing career as a writer, this year I’m particularly thank for FREEDOM: the freedom to vote, the freedom of speech, the right to practice any religion we choose—or to practice no religion at all, freedom of the press, freedom of assembly, freedom of petition, the right to bear arms…well, maybe not so much.

The inalienable rights we have are wide-reaching: to express our ideas and opinions, to hold meetings to discuss problems in a peaceful way, to petition our government to do something or refrain from doing something, to live or travel anywhere in our nation, to work at any job for which we qualify, to marry whomever we want and raise as many children as we want, to receive a free education in good public schools, and to join any political party, a union, and any other legal group. So, in summary, I’m grateful for our constitution and the three branches of government that serve as checks and balances for our freedoms. I am thankful that I live in The United States of America. My hope is that we will strive for greater unity, but at the very least, we become more tolerant of each other so that each citizen is provided the opportunity to live his or her best life.

This year I branched out with a new publisher, Blushing Books, and am writing under the pen name, Kendra Greenwood. My first book, UNSUB, debuted in April to great reviews and excellent sales. The publisher has convinced me to turn it into a series, which I’m calling the UN-series. The next book is titled UNABUSED and should be available early next year. The third book is titled UNDONE and is in the planning stages. The story possibilities are endless if you search the dictionary for words beginning with UN… I’m stoked! Of course, I still write under my given name and the second book in the WIVES OF LUCIFER trilogy should be available soon.

As a thank you for supporting me and reading my book(s) I’ll draw a name from all who comment and I’ll send you a piece of my decorative glassware…my other great passion is fusing glass. Here’s a sample, but I have many more you can choose from. I can even make something to order. The
winner will be notified by November 20th

Blurb

Six bodies turn up in a shallow graveyard near a beach on the east end of Long Island. The FBI discovers a connection to sex clubs in the area and a human trafficking ring. They receive a tip and believe a club in The Hamptons is the next target. Special Agent Alyx Cameron, a member of the FBI Division of Covert Affairs, volunteers to enter the club as a client in hopes of attracting the criminals and locating the headquarters and leaders of the ring.

Dr. Daniel Taylor left the lifestyle over a year ago and hasn’t been to the exclusive St. Andrews Club since. When his best friend, the owner, asks him to train an FBI agent for undercover work he initially resists, but the lure of having a week of kinky sex is tempting and besides, he’d be performing a service to the community.

Training a woman who is the opposite of a submissive proves challenging and before the week ends Daniel realizes he cares for Alyx. Although Alyx agreed to the arrangement and the training she soon discovers it may be more than she bargained for and is further unsettled by her blossoming affection for Daniel.

Often at odds, can Alyx and Daniel work together for the greater good? Will they be able to keep their personal feelings separate from the assignment and remember it’s just a job? Overcome by his need to protect her, can Daniel put his feelings aside and let Alyx do her job regardless of the danger?

Publisher’s Note: This suspense thriller contains elements of BDSM, explicit sex scenes, adult language and power exchange elements. If any of these themes offend you, please do not purchase the book.

  1. Congrats on your new series with your new publisher.

I agree that Freedom is a great thing to be thankful for, and that we often take for granted here in the U.S. With Veterans Day on the horizon, I'll add my own Thanks to all the men and women in our military and government, who work each day to safeguard those freedoms for the rest of us.

  3. Good on you for celebrating the freedoms we enjoy in this country and that in order to keep them strong, we need to be tolerant of other people's rights and freedoms, even if we don't agree with them. Bravo! And best wishes on your book!

  5. Caryn, you are so right. It's easy to take our freedoms for granted. I'm married to a veteran and so proud and thankful for his service to this great country of ours where we are able to celebrate diversity.
And how awesome that you are successful in two personas and two genres. Way to go!
