B&N Gift Card burning a hole in my pocket

Hey all, I've got this  Barnes and Noble Gift card (thanks mama!) burning a hole in my pocket and I need some ideas on what books to buy.

Here's what I already have.
Thanks to the recent release of several Hobbit movies (eeek, can't wait to see Battle of the Five Armies) I ordered- in paperback, J.R.R Tolkien's
The Silmarillion,
The Hobbit,
and
all three, The Lord of the Rings.
I guess it's safe to say that when I do obsession, I do it right!

I've also chosen Stardust by Neil Gaimon.
I saw the movie years ago, parts of which inspired the paranomal romance I've been working on and thought it'd be good one to add to the list.

Then there's- The Fault in our Stars by John Green
My ten year old requested the book- which she'll be getting for her birthday this week- after seeing the movie.

And for my twelve year old, who has read-- The Hunger Games trilogy, the Maze Runner, and seen, but not read Ender's Game (I did not care for the ending, but it was a brilliant twist)-
the Harry Potter series, Percy Jackson and the Olympians and is now working his way through the Heroes of Olympus series--I chose,
The Giver by Lois Lowry.

In nook form, which is just for me, I couldn't resist another Nora Roberts. So I got,
The Witness
Which I thought was really good. Elizabeth Finch/Abigail Lowery really reminded me of Bones character Temperance Brennan. The Hayes household loves them some Bones!

And after all that, I'm out of ideas!!!!

So help a bookworm out, what do you recommend?
I'm open to all genres, but I mainly read romance, fantasy, paranormal, and mystery. And I'd love something that I can share with the kiddos- if not now, eventually.

  1. If you like things bordering on fantasy, let me recommend Judi Fennell's Mer-people series which is funny and romantic! "In Over Her Head" is the first one. Also Beth Ciotta's steampunk series, which starts with 'Her Sky Cowboy" and is quite unique

    1. Just googled Judi Fennell and wow, that looks like a great series. How can you go wrong with mermaids? And steampunk sounds so interesting. Thanks Roni.

  2. Have you ever read any books by Juliet Mariller? She writes fantasy books with a Celtic feel. They're beautifully written and very compelling. If you don't want to start off with a series, Heart's Blood is a stand alone that is wonderful.

    1. Fantasy and Celtic, that's nearly perfect. I'll certainly be looking into her books. Thanks Mary.

  3. I saw that Mary recommended Juliet Mariller. A good one, Angela. I really like her stories. I was drawn into a series this year by Deborah Harkness. It's called the All Souls Trilogy. Book 1 is "A Discovery of Witches", book 2 is "Shadow of Night," and book 3, "Book of Life."

  4. Kate SeRine's TRANSPLANTED TALES series sounds like an excellent fit for you, Angela. Clever, well-written, and so original. Make sure you read them in order, though: RED is the first. Happy reading!
