Author Interview- Chrys Fey

Good morning Readers. After a week off we have the wonderful Chrys Fey with us today. I have to say, having the added advantage of reading the interviews before I post them, I know first hand, this is one book you won't want to miss. Read on as she answers a few questions and gives us a glimpse of her newest romantic suspense with an gripping blurb and excerpt.

Thank you for being with us Chrys, tell me three words that describe yourself starting with A, B, and C.

A: Ambitious (I started writing a series at the tender age of twelve, rewrote that series at seventeen, and published my first eBook in my twenties.)

B: Big-hearted (This year I rescued four stray kittens that were abandoned by their mom before they were even old enough to quit nursing. I donated 14 inches of my hair to Locks of Love this year too. I also donate as much as I can.)

C: Creative (I write short stories and books. I also pen song lyrics, draw fashion designs, and make jewelry by hand.)

What are your three favorite things?

Writing (What can I say? It’s my passion.)
My nephews (I have two nephews and they stole my heart the moment they were born.)
Halloween (I enjoy everything about Halloween. I always say I’ll dress up even as an eighty-year-old grandmother. I’ll be in a wheelchair with a witch’s hat on my head. lol)

Was there any particular inspiration for your characters or story?

Hurricanes Charley, Frances, and Ivan, which all hit Florida in 2004 in the space of four weeks, greatly influenced my story, Hurricane Crimes. If I didn’t have these experiences to draw on, I wouldn’t have been able to write accurate descriptions of what a hurricane is truly capable of.
Adele and Alanis Morissette also inspired me. I always listen to music when I write, and when I needed to create a woman as powerful as a hurricane, I relied on the songs of these two musical geniuses. Their voices and their words spawned Beth Kennedy.

How much is your character like you?

Beth Kennedy isn’t like me in any way. She is who I wish I could be: fierce, strong, and brave. She battles a category 5 hurricane with nothing but a rain coat and manages to save a man from his wrecked car. Then she is forced to stay him after finding out he could be a murderer. If I were in her shoes, I probably would’ve hid in a closet. She does so much that I don’t think I’d be capable of doing, and she endures even more.

What’s the one thing you would do if you could be your character for a day?

If I could be Beth Kennedy for a day, I would . . . well, I can’t exactly say it because it wouldn’t be appropriate, but let me just say I’d enjoy some time with Donovan. *wink*

After her car breaks down, Beth Kennedy is forced to stay in Florida, the target of Hurricane Sabrina. She stocks up supplies, boards up windows, and hunkers down to wait out the storm, but her plan unravels when she witnesses a car accident. Risking her life, she braves the winds to save the driver. Just when she believes they are safe, she finds out the man she saved could possibly be more dangerous than the severe weather.
Donovan Goldwyn only wanted to hide from the police, but the hurricane shoved his car into a tree. Now he's trapped with a beautiful woman while the evidence that can prove his innocence to a brutal crime is out there for anyone to find.
As Hurricane Sabrina wreaks havoc, Beth has no other choice but to trust Donovan to stay alive. But will she survive, or will she become another hurricane crime?

Excerpt:
On the television set, which was fighting to stay alive, was breaking news. She caught bits and pieces of it as she emptied the bowl of blood-tainted water and threw out the cloth. It was about a high-speed chase that had occurred about a half-hour ago. Beth shook her head. Apparently, Donovan wasn’t the only idiot driving around during a hurricane.
She went back into the living room and began replacing all the medical supplies into the first-aid kit. Behind her, a reporter was explaining that the driver of the car was believed to be a murder suspect.
“The name of the—”
The lights flashed, prompting Beth to snatch up her flashlight.
“Donovan Goldwyn.”
Her fingers went cold around the plastic tube as ice frosted her veins. She straightened her spine and turned stiffly to the television, her heart wasn’t beating in her chest. On the screen was the picture of the man who was right now changing in her bedroom. Above it was a caption in bold letters that read—SUSPECT.
She gripped the flashlight in her frozen fingers. Her heart thudded fearfully. She stared into the immobilized violet eyes through the glass.
“Oh my god,” she gasped.
She had brought a murderer into her home!

  2. I loved Chrys Fey's story! Writing a romance that takes place during a hurricane is a wonderful idea. Her characters are charming. And she sure packs a lot in one short story.
