Thankful Author 2018- NN Light

“Every morning, I wake up and think about 10 different things I’m thankful for, and I continue to spread that love throughout the day, always visualizing, meditating, and growing.” – Shameik Moore

We are thankful for so much, it’s hard to put it into words. An author at a loss for words? Go figure. We’ve gone through so much this year, both devastating and uplifting, we’re so grateful to be here.

Back in February, our blog got hacked and shut down. We lost content, images, followers, everything in a blink of an eye. Three years of hard work down the drain. We had a choice: give up or never surrender. Like a phoenix rising from the ashes, we worked hard and created a new place for readers and authors to connect. What started out as rocking our world turned into the greatest blessing of the year.

We’re so thankful to all of our fellow authors, bloggers and readers who supported us throughout this whole process. Without you, there wouldn’t be a N. N. Light’s Book Heaven and our business wouldn’t be the success it is today.

We’re so thankful for every day we’re given. We both lost our dads in our early twenties and while we still miss them, their deaths taught us to never take anything for granted. They also taught us the value of saying, “I love you,” to loved ones every single day. You just never know when they’ll be gone forever.

We’re thankful for our financial situation which allows us to give to the poor and less fortunate. Our mission in life, both personal and professional, is to feed the hungry. In every town, city and neighbourhood, there are people who don’t have enough to eat. Men, women and children who have to choose between paying the electric/gas bill and eating dinner. A portion of all of our book sales as well as a percentage of our income goes to our local food bank. We’re hopeful no child has to be hungry this holiday season.

We’re thankful for our health. A few times this year, we’ve had injuries, migraines and close calls. Without our health, we wouldn’t be here now. We take care of our bodies and they, in turn, take care of us. So blessed.

We’re thankful for each other. As a husband and wife of over fourteen years, we’ve been through every success and every failure together. Our love keeps growing and nothing can tear us apart. Our commitment to love, honor and obey has increased over the years and we honestly can’t imagine life without the other. We are each other’s life’s helper and that, dear people, is what life is all about.

As the holiday season approaches, we’re incredibly blessed with a multitude of blessings. We hope Light and Love fill your hearts every day, as they have filled ours.

"Spread the Light and inspire others to do the same." -- N. N. Light

In 2013, we wrote a mission statement and started a blog. We wanted to test a theory. Could one person (or in our case, one couple) use uplifting words to create change?

The answer is a resounding yes! People from all over the world responded to our short inspirational thoughts of the day, and our following grew. What started out as a few people promoting kindness and goodwill turned into a movement. In every city, there are Light-Bearers making a difference and we want you to join us.

Everyone needs inspiration. It doesn’t matter what spiritual belief you hold dear, you have the Light inside you. Kindness, compassion, empathy, encouragement are all attributes of the Light. In this book, you’ll find a ninety second inspirational thought for each day of the year. You’ll be inspiring people to spread the Light daily with our collection of inspirational thoughts. From giving of yourself to simply smiling, these are easy concepts for anyone to apply!

There are two ways of spreading light: to be the candle, or the mirror that reflects it. – Edith Wharton

Are you spreading the Light in your corner of the world?
I live in an old neighborhood in my town. The houses and buildings are established with trees towering over the streets. I love it!
As someone who walks every day, I run into a lot of elderly people. Many of them smile and are friendly. I stop and chat with them for a moment or two.
Why?
It makes their day and it's my way of spreading the Light. It doesn't take any effort on my part and their faces light up.
Want to make someone's day? Stop what you're doing for one second and say hello. Acknowledging another person and wishing them a good day is a great way of spreading the Light inside you.
There are two ways of spreading light: to be the candle, or the mirror that reflects it.

The day her grandfather died, Sally’s life changed forever.

Twenty-Two-year-old Sally Rayton returns to the family farm she deserted four years ago to bury her grandfather. Her plan: to settle her grandfather’s estate and return to her life in the city with her boyfriend, Trevor Mattson.

Her childhood friend, Jack Smith, has other ideas.

Jack convinces Sally to transform the farm into a brewery and fulfill her grandfather’s dream while keeping the Rayton Farm in the family. Sally works side-by-side with Jack while Trevor is hundreds of miles away in the city. The more time she spends with Jack, the stronger her feelings are for him. Sally’s torn between her new feelings for her best friend, Jack and her boyfriend, Trevor.

When Trevor shows up to propose to Sally right before Christmas and finds her in Jack’s embrace, she’s unsure which man she loves. Will it be her best friend and farmer, Jack, or will it be rich, successful Trevor? City or Country… only Sally’s heart knows what’s right and true.

Excerpt

Jack looked where she pointed.
"Sally..." he began.
"Yes?"
"Are you planning on selling it when the farm's made a profit?"
Sally sighed.
He turned her body around, his gaze penetrating hers.
"I don't know," she whispered. "I know Grandpa wanted me to keep it in the family." She furrowed her brow. "I'm not a country girl; my heart belongs to the city."
"Hey, it's okay." He moved a step closer. "Farming is hard work and you have to love it to make it successful." He put a hand on her shoulder. "Don't beat yourself up for following your heart."
Sally winced.
"What?"
"Jack, I'm not sure what my heart wants. Part of me loves being here, carrying on the family name."
"But..." Jack raised an eyebrow warily.
"But I have a life in the city. I've almost finished my degree –"
"You have Trevor," Jack interrupted her. He shook his head.
"What's wrong with that? Yes, I have a life and a boyfriend in the city. I've told you a thousand times my dream is to open my own sidewalk cafe." She folded her arms over her chest. "Don't you want me to be happy, Jack?" Her voice sounded hurt, even to her own ears.
He closed his eyes and rubbed his forehead.
"This isn't going how I wanted it to." He glanced up at her. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to imply anything. It's just –"
"What?" Sally cocked her head to one side.
The telephone rang inside.
"I have to go answer it. I'll be right back." She ran into the house.
"Hello?"
"Hi beautiful." Trevor.

    1. Thank you so much for your kind words. We had to be the living embodiment to Winston Churchill's WWII sentiment: We will never surrender. We learned valuable lessons and have come out victorious. :)
