The Little Things Matter Most
There are so many things in life I’m grateful for—my amazing husband and two wonderful little girls…my health…my career…our life in general…
So, I guess I’d have to say I am most grateful for perspective—for the ability to understand how truly fortunate I am.
Somewhere recently, I felt myself take a step back from life and say, “Wow. This is really good.” At some point I had that “Ah-ha moment”—that perfect clarity—that moment when I got it. And that moment was pretty powerful.
I understood—at that moment—how lucky I am to have my daughters to snuggle every night—even on the days they drive me batty. I knew how fortunate I am to share my life with a man who wants the world for me—and delivers it…time and again.
You know the expression don’t sweat the little things? Maybe you shouldn’t sweat them, but you sure as heck should enjoy them. Those little things—the hugs from your family, coffee in your favorite mug, the leaves on the tree outside your window—those are the important things.
As I lose family members to disease, and watch friends battle cancer, I am grateful for every single little moment. I am grateful for binge watching Netflix with my husband while we eat takeout sushi. ‘Cause the other stuff—the “big” stuff—the books on the bestseller lists, the career promotions, the world travels—they’re great. But they’re really not what it’s all about.
I am thankful each and every day for all the wonderful little things in my life.
Happy Thanksgiving, everyone.

Excerpt from Book 2 of THE LETTING series:
“Trust me, Ron.”
I nod, my hands suddenly shaking. He takes them into his hand and lifts them to his mouth. He kisses my fingers softly.
“You’re grieving right now—I would never take advantage of you. But…”
I take a deep breath.
He lets go of my hands and reaches out toward the still unbuttoned top two buttons of my shirt. The collar lays open, and his fingers trace the hollow of my throat. “You look gorgeous in my shirt.”
His eyes are locked on me, and I feel overpowered but safe all at once. There’s a strange ache in my body, answering to the hunger in his eyes.
“It is by far the most beautiful you have ever looked.”
My eyes dart up as he reaches out to touch the next button. He studies me as he slowly begins to unbutton. My entire body warms, and I bite down hard on my bottom lip. He abandons my button to run his fingers across my lips once more. I try to remember to breathe.
