Thankful Author 2017- Kari Lemor

I’m a firm believer in thanking God every day for all the wonderful things I’ve been given in life.  What I’m most grateful for are the people in my lives.

My husband of thirty years is my biggest cheerleader and support.  My children are extremely precious to me. My oldest daughter was the first to encourage me to write. My middle daughter is the one who actually reads all my work and helps me brainstorm. Then my youngest, my son, is always the one who has the kindest, nicest, and most heartfelt words for when I manage a great writing achievement or have a disappointment. 

I am so thankful for my childhood friends who are still a large part of my life. The Hoodlums, Lisa, Jeanne, Debbie and Kristin don’t typically read romance novels but have bought all my books (some of them bought two, a Kindle to read and a print to have) to show their support of my writing career. What would I do without our groups texts that go on and on and on?

The other vital people are my writer friends. My beautiful new BFF, Peggy Jaeger, who I love hanging with because she is so much fun. All my Kensington friends who have been so helpful in getting my books published and especially the Kensington authors who have helped show me the ropes.

My amazing beta ladies, Kris Hardy and Emily Harmston, who followed me from my sci-fi fan fic days and make sure I have enough angst and emotion so that my readers will cry.

I am incredibly thankful for the amazing critique partner I have, the very talented MA Grant. She never fails to ask the tough questions that make me think about my characters and why they are doing what they are doing. She is always there to give me support, talk me down from a ledge, or just chat (translate- bitch and moan) about teaching.  

God brings people in and out of our life for a reason and I am so thankful that he brought these people into mine.

Excerpt:

He slid his hands under the infant, lifting him from the bed to hold him close. Jonathan barely weighed anything. His heart constricted yet again. The innocent baby scent wafted into his nostrils and he blinked back the moisture filling his eyes. The reaction was primitive and territorial. This was his son.

Jonathan let out a small mewing sound and Jack snuggled him close. “I’m right here, pal. I might not be around much but I wanted to let you know…I love you very much.” His voice cracked with emotion. “I’m your Dad.”

He had a son. Was now a father. But he couldn’t be a father—not in the way that it mattered. He’d swore he’d be better than his dad. But this—he’d be worse. As it began to sink in, his hands shook with the enormity of the situation.

A noise from Callie drew his eyes to the bed. She shouldn’t see him. It was too dangerous. Still he wasn’t ready to give up holding his son quite yet. You might as well rip his heart from his chest and throw it on the floor.
