Happy Monday readers.
Please join me in welcoming author Charlotte O'Shay to the blog. Read on as she answer a few questions before sharing her awesome looking book, The Marriage Ultimatum. Check out the cover, isn't that beautiful!
Welcome Charlotte, tell me three words that describe yourself starting
with A, B, and C.
Analytical, Bossy, Caring
What are your three favorite things?
That’s easy. Coffee, wine and dark chocolate. If “things”
can be people, I would choose coffee, my husband and my children (most times
not in that order!)
Are you self- published or with a publishing company (if so, which
one?)?
I’m published by the ever-supportive Wild Rose
Press.
What for you is the best part of writing?
The best part of writing is creating people/characters
and the world those characters live in. It’s both strange and exhilarating to
do that and then inhabit their world with them.
What is the worst?
Promoting myself and my
writing. I am, like many writers, reserved and introspective.
Was there any particular inspiration for your characters or story?
My story and characters are inspired in large part by the spirit and vibe
of New York City, and the people who thrive on the challenge of succeeding
there. My hero, Vlad, is an immigrant to New York and my heroine, Sabrina, was
born in New York City. What they have in common is their desire to flourish in
spite of tremendous odds and their instantaneous attraction to each other.
How much is your character like you?
She isn’t very much like me because she is very much alone in the world
trying to protect and care for her young brother. We do have in common that
protective, nurturing instinct.
Music
is a big influence on my writing. I have certain songs that inspire each
chapter, or the whole book. What helps to inspire you?
If I had to choose a
song it might be Empire State of Mind. But although I listen to music all the
time when I’m not writing, I don’t listen while writing. It’s tough enough
filtering out the noise of NYC and the voices in my head. My main inspiration
is the pulse of the city and all of the many tales there are to tell of life
here.
What’s the one thing you would do if you could be your character for a
day?
This is such a great question and so tough to
answer. Sabrina spends much of the story in such turmoil. Her fear that the
authorities will discover she is Alex’s sister not his mom color everything she
does. In spite of herself she is falling in love with Vlad. She’s conflicted
and I have her painted into a corner.
Will there be more books in your series, or can you tell us about any
previous books?
The Marriage Ultimatum is the first of a three
book series, all three books standalone but are loosely connected. The other
two books are A Model Engagement
which features Lacey, (Sabrina’s best friend) as heroine. Lacey Lee Reed is a
former model and to the outside world, seems to have a perfect life. But appearances
are deceiving. When she meets the hero, Connor Devlin, her life has completely
unravelled. The third is entitled An
Illicit Affair and features another couple connected to the others, Sunny
has come to New York with a college degree and the drive to support her family
upstate. She has trouble getting a job and runs afoul of Jake Riccobono, the ex-Navy, security expert
who is a friend of Connor and Lacey from Book 2.
When
not writing, what can you be found doing?
Spending time with my family,
walking, wishing I was at the beach, DIY furniture painting projects, going to
tag sales, cooking experiments, enjoying a coffee or a glass of wine, reading,
and thinking about writing.
Favorite writer, book?
Too many to name. There are
so many great ones out there, old and new and in all genres.
Blurb:
Dead-end
job? Dreary apartment? Disastrous love life? Check, check, and check. Toddler
who makes it all worthwhile? Absolutely. Juggling work, college, and the care
of young Alex was never Sabrina's plan.
But
Sabrina's dreams are bigger than any curve ball life can throw at her. Her top
priority is keeping her small family together, no matter what the cost.
Vladimir
Grigory doesn't believe in dreams. He earned his position at the top of New
York's corporate ladder with his own sweat. His empire is his baby, and he'll
destroy anyone who threatens it. Even the sexy employee who challenges him on
every level.
When
the New York tabloids and the world call him the baby daddy of Sabrina's son,
Vlad believes Sabrina is part of a plot to expose the secrets of his past. He
threatens to destroy her future. But since Sabrina has secrets of her own, she
has no choice but to agree to Vlad's marriage ultimatum.
Excerpt
“Ms.,” he glanced at the folder
again, “Boyd.”
Now Sabrina felt lower and dirtier
than the bottom of a trashcan. They hadn’t exchanged names the night before. We went from zero to sixty
in five minutes in the backseat of a car. We were seconds away from completely
anonymous sex. You’re the top guy at VGI. Hell, you are VGI, and I climbed over
you like a lap dancer. But buddy, your hands were glued to me, too!
The heat climbed up from her chest
to her face again.
If she could rocket off the planet, she would in a
nanosecond. Her heart blocked her throat, and she couldn’t utter a word if her
life depended on it. Not wanting to look but unable to tear her gaze away, she
just stared.
And man, he was taking his sweet
time staring right back.
