Happy Monday readers, I have the wonderful Kyann Waters with me today. Kyann is sharing her newest book, Betrayed Vows, and it looks to be a hot one!!
Hi, Kyann, tell me three words that describe yourself starting with A, B, and C.
A – I hate to say it, but I’m anal – as in obsessive and a control freak. I like things done my way.
B– bucolic – I like the simple things. Family, food, and writing lets me
be home. I love that. I live on the bench of the Wasatch Mountains. We have
deer in the yard all winter long.
C – Chatty – I could kill a perfectly productive day on the phone with my
sisters.
What are your three favorite things?
The easy answer is my husband of more than 20 years and my two boys, ages
14 and 16.
But there is also this inner beast that craves sweets. That monster would
say carrot cake, banana pudding, and yummy sweet decadent coffees from
Starbucks.
I love sweets! Was there any particular inspiration for your characters or story?
Oh yes, several years ago there was a news story about the increased number
of marriages happening within the prison system. I wondered what would make a
woman marry a prisoner. And then I thought of the possible repercussions once
the felon was released. In the case of Betrayed Vows, Gretchen marries a
prisoner because that was the type of relationship she could handle. She has
more baggage than a Samsonite store. Landon, our hero, is really a good guy who
made some poor choices when he was young and dumb and intends to make the most
of his freedom. And Crystal, the neighbor, just sort of stumbles into their
chaos but finds herself drawn to Landon in ways she shouldn’t be. As the story
unfolds all of their lives spiral out of control.
Music is a big influence on my writing. I have certain songs that
inspire each chapter, or the whole book. What helps to inspire you?
I love to listen to music while I write, but I can just as easily have the
TV on for background noise. I take inspiration from everything around me.
Friends and family know that if anything interesting or unique happens in their
life, it could become fodder for the next book.
When not writing, what can you be found doing?
Oh my hello, I have more hobbies than Martha Stewart! I knit (making baby
blankets right now for my sister) I garden and then can fruits, veggies, jams
and jellies from what I grow (the summer garden starts are in the greenhouse.
Yep, I’m a greenhouse gardener too.), I’m a recipe whore and I love to bake
(Cupcake Wars look out, I’m honing my craft. I made the best carrot cake
cupcakes on Easter). I love to run the
trails in the mountains above my house. It’s about a 5 minute walk to the
trailhead. And in between all of that, I’m a mom to two boys. I’m a soccer mom to one and a band mom to the
other.
Oh my gosh, Kyann. we have so much in common!!
Except for the baking part and the running, I just like to eat and couldn't run to save me life!

BETRAYED VOWS BLURB
Everything in Gretchen Booker’s life was as she wanted it. A
husband on her terms. Companionship without physical contact. That’s why she
married a lifer. Who would’ve thought it would all come to an end after only
ten years?
Life on the outside is not as Landon Booker expected. But
how can he make a future for himself beyond prison walls when the woman who is
supposed to love him wants to see him sent back to the penitentiary.
Crystal Evans isn’t a home wrecker. Landon needs a friend…someone
who can help protect him from his conspiring wife. Falling in love wasn’t part
of the plan.
Yet vows betrayed leave all three with something to
lose—Crystal her heart, Landon his freedom, and Gretchen the life she had
before.
EXCERPT
After he jumped in the shower, dried off and dressed, he
went downstairs and found Gretchen in the kitchen. “Morning,” he mumbled. She
didn’t look up from the newspaper spread out on the table. Cup of coffee in
hand, dressed for the day, she didn’t give Landon even a cursory glance. “Late
night. Where were you, or don’t I need to ask?”
Landon took his cup of coffee and joined her at the table.
He covered his mouth while he yawned. “You weren’t home. I grabbed a burger and
fries.” He sipped his coffee. “You don’t have to ask. I was with Crystal.”
She put the paper down. “Why do you want to hurt me?”
“In order for me to hurt your feelings, I’d have to believe
you give a damn.” He stood and crossed the room. “I don’t. Do you want toast?”
He turned his back to her and reached for the bread.
“How can you say that? I’ve stayed with you for ten years.”
“And I wonder why,” he interrupted. “Why did you agree to
have me paroled into your custody if you didn’t want me here?” He waited for
her to answer. When he turned around her eyes were cold and vacant.

KyAnn, What a terrific premise for a book! Very intriguing, I'll definitely have to read this one. Hey, I'm with you on the carrot cake ... and most sweets, truth be told. It's my one weakness (other than writing steamy love scenes). Best of luck with the book!
ReplyDeletethanks Laura. just thinking about carrot cake makes me want some. cream cheese icing. yumm!
ReplyDeleteThanks for being with us today Kyann, I've got the Rafflecopter giveaway up and going. Betrayed Vows looks extremely interesting and that's a great excerpt. Very attention catching.
ReplyDeleteGreat post! I've never broken a vow. As for a promise, non that I can recall. Maybe small ones like "I promise to come to the party tonight" only to fall asleep on my couch and miss the whole thing. :-)
