What I'm thankful for

I'm thankful for the opportunity to connect with readers through my books.  I have been reading since I was a kid and I remember reading books far above my grade level because I wanted to know who were the characters my mother and sister were conversing about as though they were real people. I wanted to be nosey and find out who was doing what with whom. I loved being able to read about bold characters, and wondered what it would be like to create a character that a reader would think about throughout the day.  I'm doing that now, albeit on a small level, and hope to be able to expand my readership as my literary achievements grow.

 Tell me three words that describe yourself starting with A, B, and C.  

Appreciative, Brave, Cheap

What are your three favorite things? 

 A perfect cup of coffee, dark chocolate covered almonds, and a really good book...naturally!

 Are you self- published or with a publishing company (if so, which one?)? 

Hybrid. Sweet Secrets is self-published and Jaded is published with The Wild Rose Press.  

What for you is the best part of writing? What is the worst?  

The best part of writing is the opportunity to create dialogue. Maybe it's a chance for the crazy part of me to feel okay in the world but I love having a conversation in two different voices, with characters who don't agree and are trying to speak reason to the one another.  The worst part of writing is slogging through the dreaded first draft.  The first draft is always the toughest but a necessary evil.

Was there any particular inspiration for your characters or story? 

I'm a fan of the '80's character Alexis Carrington from Dynasty.  Although Jade isn't the main character in Jaded, she's a fun character because she's so deliciously bad like Alexis.

What is the ultimate goal you have for your career? 

Ultimately, I'd love to be able to sell enough books where I can write full time and someday see one of my books become a movie. A Lifetime movie is A-Okay by me. I love Lifetime.

Will there be more books in your series, or can you tell us about any previous books? 

Yes! I'm participating in NaNoWriMo - National Novel Writing Month this November and I'm working on part two of Jaded. 

If you could spend the day with any celebrity, who would it be?

Tony Robbins. He's intelligent and inspiring.

“Syeesha, I really didn’t mean to embarrass you back there. I know what it’s like to want someone who doesn’t even know you exist.”

“Who says I want him? He’s our teacher! And he’s so...” She struggled for an appropriately offensive word to describe the most perfect-looking man on the planet and all she could come up with was, “Old.”

His reply was a casual, knowing smile. The way his thick brows lifted, then furrowed, could have been considered sexy.

The doors to the train opened, but no one got off the nearly empty car. Syeesha stepped on board, then turned back to shoot one last defensive strike at Christian as he stood on the platform. But he spoke before she had the chance.“Maybe now you’ll start noticing guys a little

less...old.”

The train door slid shut.

Instead of rushing away, Christian locked eyes with her until the train whisked out of sight.

Syeesha flopped into a seat, perplexed yet giddy. After she’d had time to fully digest what had just transpired, she allowed her held-back smile to break through.
